Thanks for the memories
Hard Rock Cafe is much more than just a restaurant or hotel, though; it is an institution of rock heritage. The Hard Rock collection contains some of the most priceless artefacts of music history. In fact, it’s one of the largest private collections of rock memorabilia in the world, with more than 80,000 items acquired from across the globe.
The unique collection began when Eric Clapton – who was a regular customer at the original Cafe in
Hard Rock’s range of memorabilia quickly expanded – the result of special auctions and generous donations by iconic musicians. Today, the most priceless pieces of this vast collection of music history are housed in a former bank vault below Hard Rock London’s Rock Shop.
Some of the collection’s most treasured items include: John Lennon’s jacket and glasses, a Jimi Hendrix Gibson Flying V guitar used on Rainbow Bridge, the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour Bus, Bo Diddley’s first hand-made guitar and Elvis Presley’s 1976 Harley-Davidson with custom blue and gold finish.
The collection also includes some items that history forgot, including a trash can owned by Elvis Presley, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s personal guitar with lyrics written on toilet paper taped to the side, the front doors from the Abbey Road Studios covered with a fan’s graffiti, the snow globe with a bride and groom inside from the top of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s wedding cake, Stevie Wonder’s diploma from Xavier University printed in Braille, and dreadlocks from both Boy George and George Clinton.
