Where motorcycling and music meet

Leader bfrm5xcrop2

A Harley-Davidson® partner since 2012, Hard Rock Cafe offers not only a great deal for H.O.G.® members, but a history rooted in two good old-fashioned American staples – food, and rock ’n’ roll!

Hard Rock Cafe is a haven for music and food lovers, with hotels, restaurants and casinos throughout the world. Each venue is home to great food, live music and awesome rock memorabilia.

The first Hard Rock Cafe was founded by two Americans who realised they couldn’t find a good American burger anywhere in London. The result was an authentic American-style diner that quickly became popular with music lovers.

Today, 47 years after the Cafe’s first meal was served, Hard Rock is a worldwide phenomenon with more than 190 restaurants, hotels, casinos and live music venues. Venues typically include displays of rare rock memorabilia, autographed photos on the walls and many have Harley-Davidson® parts or whole motorcycles on display. Hard Rock Cafe encompasses everything about rock culture and its history.

Thanks for the memories

Hard Rock Cafe is much more than just a restaurant or hotel, though; it is an institution of rock heritage. The Hard Rock collection contains some of the most priceless artefacts of music history. In fact, it’s one of the largest private collections of rock memorabilia in the world, with more than 80,000 items acquired from across the globe.

The unique collection began when Eric Clapton – who was a regular customer at the original Cafe in London – asked if he could hang his guitar on the wall to reserve his favourite bar stool. The management happily agreed. Soon after, a mystery package arrived at the Cafe – it was a guitar from Pete Townshend from The Who, with a message: “Mine’s as good as his! Love, Pete.”

Hard Rock’s range of memorabilia quickly expanded – the result of special auctions and generous donations by iconic musicians. Today, the most priceless pieces of this vast collection of music history are housed in a former bank vault below Hard Rock London’s Rock Shop.

Some of the collection’s most treasured items include: John Lennon’s jacket and glasses, a Jimi Hendrix Gibson Flying V guitar used on Rainbow Bridge, the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour Bus, Bo Diddley’s first hand-made guitar and Elvis Presley’s 1976 Harley-Davidson with custom blue and gold finish.

The collection also includes some items that history forgot, including a trash can owned by Elvis Presley, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s personal guitar with lyrics written on toilet paper taped to the side, the front doors from the Abbey Road Studios covered with a fan’s graffiti, the snow globe with a bride and groom inside from the top of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s wedding cake, Stevie Wonder’s diploma from Xavier University printed in Braille, and dreadlocks from both Boy George and George Clinton.

A rocking relationship

Harley-Davidson and authentic rock music have been entwined throughout history, and riders have long had a relationship with the Hard Rock Cafe. In the US, many Cafes host regular bike nights and at Cafe anniversaries convoys of Harleys usually ride in to celebrate. At Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh’s 15th anniversary, Hard Rock’s global ambassador Rita Gilligan MBE and the waitresses proudly posed on Harley-Davidson motorcycles outside the Cafe.

In response to riders’ fantastic support, Hard Rock Cafe has put on many fantastic events for Harley riders, such as the Whole Lotta Harley Giveaway in Tennessee, where Hard Rock Cafe teamed up with Harley-Davidson, Chevrolet and the local Harley radio station. At European Bike Week® 2016 in Faaker See, Hard Rock Cafe Krakow also commissioned a very special custom cafe racer, comprising musical parts and based on a Harley-Davidson Sportster® 883.

Plus, if you are ever in Las Vegas, be sure to visit the Hard Rock Cafe – described as ‘Harley-Davidson heaven’ because of its vast range of Harley memorabilia and motorcycles.
