Peter’s epic one-day Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge
Peter Vinicombe from Rolling Hills Chapter Cheltenham, is riding a bum-numbing 900 miles in one day! Riding for charity, Peter will undertake this epic ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats before heading off to Thunder in the Glens.
“On August 23, I am doing my one-day challenge for a Cheltenham-based charity, Heidi’s Heroes. This Charity was set up in memory of Heidi Wood, a Commonwealth and World Champion swimmer. Unfortunately, Heidi passed away in 2012 from breast cancer. The charity provides funding for cancer research, bereavement counselling, counselling for those with cancer and teaches disadvantaged children to swim.”
Peter continues: “The challenge? Well I must be mad! I am riding my 2011 Softail Deluxe from Land’s End to John O’Groats in the same day. The plan is to depart Land’s End in the early hours and reach John O’Groats by 10pm the same day. I aim to average approximately 65mph, stopping every 100 miles for a 20-minute break.”
"I think the hardest part of the challenge will be sitting on the bike for nearly 24 hours and possibly riding through bad weather. My gluteus maximus will certainly know about it, and I just hope August 23rd 2018, will be fine and dry – throughout the UK!”

Good luck Pete!
Air Ambulance saves the day
Three years ago Steve Spenner, a Mancunium Chapter member, was unfortunately involved in a serious road accident where he suffered several broken bones, two punctured lungs and seven broken ribs. Thankfully Steve recovered. Recently he met Andy Duncan, the North West Air Ambulance doctor who saved his life that day.
Steve’s experience will feature on the new series of “999” to be broadcast this autumn.
